DBB Promotes Global Citizenship from an Early Age

Dear all, good morning.

Among the many topics to share, today we will discuss “Global Citizenship,” a relatively new term that is gaining relevance as we understand the unlimited potential it represents for anyone who can connect with the idea that their present and future are related, both in terms of developing essential skills and the ability to apply them in an increasingly broader environment in an increasingly interconnected world.

Despite the challenges facing young people today, they also have the advantage of immediate access to the world and what is happening in it. A simple click in the right direction can be a source of inspiration, quality information, and change. That world, which until a few years ago seemed distant and disconnected from our reality, is the same one that today has its doors wide open to anyone who wants and knows how to take advantage of them and build a coherent, successful, and happy future.

On the other hand, connecting with the world and having access from an early age to a wider community, and not just to a specific region or country, gives us PERSPECTIVE, an immensely valuable tool when it comes to identifying and taking advantage of life opportunities that are no longer a luxury but have become a necessity.

Since 2011, UNESCO has used the concept of “Education for Global Citizenship and Peace” and defines it as the positive contribution that an individual can make to their environment, derived from an attitude and mindset that cultivates and fosters tolerance and respect from a sense of belonging to the global community and collaborates in solving the major problems that affect us all. The proposal includes:

Adapting curricula and classroom content.

Encouraging critical thinking, equity, justice, and understanding of other perspectives and opinions.

Teaching universal values that provide vision and purpose.

Adopting behaviors to act in accordance with those values.

At DBB, we deeply believe in this educational and transformative vision. Our classrooms are spaces that foster global citizenship, and our efforts are directed toward building alliances and experiences that connect young people with the richness of their inner world, with the context and understanding of the outside world around them, and with the development of the flexibility, empathy, and commitment necessary to become agents of change.

Until next time.

With love and affection as always:

Robert
