DBB off to a good start in Nigeria

At the beginning of July, after 13 months on hold, we resumed our talks with CityMUN, our Nigerian friends who now represent us academically in the city of Lagos, the African capital of Nigeria. 

The alliance aims to create opportunities for a delegation of Nigerian students to participate in person as delegates in our upcoming SICMUN VI model, which will take place on February 10 and 11, 2024, in Georgetown, Texas.

Our conversation focused on two main topics: the first was the great interest of Nigerian students in leaving their country and traveling to Texas to expand their world, and the enormous financial challenge that this represents for some families due to the massive devaluation of the naira (Nigerian currency) in recent years, especially since February. 

It should come as no surprise to anyone that the Nigerian Naira is a weak currency globally, and if we add to that the country's internal conflicts related to food, public debt, and cash shortages as a result of the change in banknotes in circulation nationwide, the result can only be a huge devaluation, which, as we know, is the largest in the African country in the last 25 years.

The other topic of our videoconference had to do with the invitation to DBB for a Mexican/North American delegation to travel to participate in the 7th edition of CityMUN Nigeria to be held in Lagos, the capital, in October 2025. 

We love crossing borders and are sowing the first seeds to make this dream possible for both organizations.  

We appreciate the invaluable work our friends Tony and Chinyere are doing to take the first step in this collaboration. They assure us that once we go to Nigeria, we will always want to return. Will that be the case? What do you think?
